 Lower Gwynedd Township, Pennsylvania

How the Real Estate of Lower Gwynedd Township Has Evolved

Lower Gwynedd can be found in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The area was settled by Welsh pilgrims, and the name "Gwynedd" comes from the Welsh term "Gwyn Eth," which translates to "white fields." Having been settled in the late 17th century, Lower Gwynedd is one of the oldest townships in the area. As was the case for many of the towns in the area, William Penn played an important role in setting up Gwynedd Township. It wasn't until 1891 that the area was divided into Lower and Upper Gwynedd.

Modern Lower Gwynedd Township is made up of the villages of Gwynedd, Gwynedd Valley, Penllyn, and Spring House. The current pronunciation of the name is more English than Welsh. It now covers approximately 9.4 square miles, and real estate in Gwynedd Township is highly sought after by those wishing to live the more suburban life of the Philadelphia area.

Life in Lower Gwynedd Township, Pennsylvania

Officially founded by William Penn in 1891, Lower Gwynedd Township has come a long way. The current population is around 10, 500 residents, with a median household income of $74,351 in the year 2000. The area is bolstered by both a strong sense of history and an eye toward the future. Amidst it all, however, there is a focus on the current quality of life. Lower Gwynedd real estate is intermixed with more than 90 acres of parks and in excess of eight miles of trails.

The real estate itself is broken into a number of residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Because of its proximity to Philadelphia, Lower Gwynedd is able to enjoy the benefits of both a small town and an urban environment. This also allows for a reasonable commute for those who wish to work in the big city but own real estate in the comparatively slower-paced township. The area is served by the Wissahickon School District, which also serves the nearby Borough of Ambler and Whitpain Township.

Life in Lower Gwynedd Township lends itself to enjoying a variety of local events and activities. Whether the weather is warm or cold, there is some aspect of the community to be enjoyed. The annual Countrie Picnic takes place each September, for example. In addition, the Township is able to offer discounted tickets to events and attractions in Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Residents enjoy discounted skiing at Bear Creek, Big Boulder/Jack Frost, Blue Mountain, Camelback, Elk Mountain, and Shawnee Mountain. In the summer, residents can purchase tickets to area amusement parks, as well as the Philadelphia Zoo and the Baltimore Aquarium.

Looking for Real Estate in Lower Gwynedd

Those interested in Lower Bwynedd real estate have a number of resources at their disposal. Obviously, an online search can turn up some real estate listings. In most cases, however, someone looking for real estate in Lower Gwynedd will find that working with a real estate agent or broker may give them an advantage. Not only will the professional have a line on the newest listings, but he or she will likely be very familiar with the Lower Gwynedd area. This is especially beneficial for real estate buyers who don't live in the immediate area. Additionally, there has been some competition for Lower Gwynedd real estate, so it can be helpful to have a trained professional who can help navigate the waters of real estate dealings.

While working with an agent or broker can be very helpful, it is still a good idea for any prospective buyer to gather as much information as possible about both an area and a property before moving ahead with an offer. Working with a lender is key to getting approval when you find exactly the right home, business, or piece of land. Whether you're looking for real estate in Lower Gwynedd, the state of Pennsylvania, or throughout the country, knowledge is the best tool.
