Horsham Pennsylvania Real Estate: Finding a Way to Soar in Suburbia

Most people decide to live in the township of Horsham in Montgomery County to enjoy the combined benefits of a smaller, more laid-back environment and proximity to a major city and all that is associated with it. Thanks to the options in Horsham PA real estate, living near Philadelphia doesn't mean you need to compromise what you want in a home or in a town's benefits. Horsham allows families to live the dream of having access to great real estate, schools, and jobs while never losing touch. Horsham is a place to settle.

The township covers roughly 17 square miles of Montgomery County. A branch of the Pennypack Creek begins here, and much of the surrounding landscape takes advantage of this natural site.

More than 24,000 people currently live in the township of Horsham-a number that is larger than that of many other surrounding towns thanks to the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove. In 2011, when the base is expected to close, much of the existing Horsham real estate will change hands to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, so now is a great time to look for houses for sale in Horsham and its outlying areas.

Horsham Real Estate Has a Rich History

A historic county in Sussex, in the south of England, lends its name to Horsham, but the township has plenty of history all its own. In the early days of land grant settlements, County Line Road, Horsham Road, and Welsh Road were surveyed and plotted by William Penn and his surveyors. In fact, many of these survey plots are still reflected in Horsham PA real estate today, giving the township center a rich, historic feel that is difficult to find elsewhere.

In early 1700s, tracts of Horsham real estate became available to migrating Quakers. Horsham's population through the centuries gradually grew until the railroad extended into nearby towns and gave rise to Horsham's residential growth. The area later served as the home for the Simpson family, who would later become famous for being the ancestors of Civil War hero and U.S. president Ulysses S. Grant. In 1942, the United States Navy purchased a flying field, and after acquiring other tracts of Horsham land, it developed into the base for one of America's largest naval air stations.

This kind of history allows Horsham township and Montgomery County to retain their roots with the earliest American landscape. At the same time, recent developments and a strong commuting community mean that residents are never too far from the bustle of activity of city life.

The Township of Horsham Real Estate: An Affordable Lifestyle

One of the best features of real estate in Horsham is its link between rural living and city life. The commute to neighboring large cities is not a large one, but for those who would rather not look outside their hometown for a livelihood, there are economic opportunities closer to home, as well. And because you're living in a more agrarian area, affordability is always within reach.

Horsham real estate provides an affordable, elegant lifestyle that includes all the benefits of proximity to Philadelphia. Many commuting professionals find houses for sale in Horsham that allow them to leave work behind to enjoy a more peaceful rural setting. Retirees enjoy the small-town feel of the landscape. Families enjoy knowing their children have access to the best schools and a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. No matter what you're looking for, most Horsham residents know how to really enjoy and celebrate the area's co-mingling of history, culture, and nature.
